IBR Zincalum

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing recently installed IBR Zincalum in the center of Cape Town. We removed two layers of roof that had been in place for many years.

Removal of Roof

Over the original corrugated roof sheets, a timber roof was added. All of this was removed to access the original roof timbers and purlins. Our customer decided on a new roof using IBR roof sheets from Bluescope Steel.

The roof sheets were then finished with flashings of the same material. All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing then waterproofed the parapet walls using a heat fused membrane painted using a Silver Bitumen Paint.

All Seasons Roofing Install Garage Roof

IBR Poly Carb Roof Sheets

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing were contracted to install an IBR Profile Colorbond Garage Roof, We advised that IBR colorbond roof sheets for this application. For a FREE ROOF QUOTE contact us (021) 557 8363

To increase light two IBR polycarb roof sheets were included. To reduced heat we advised that white sheets were installed. Learn more about the project below

Removal of IBR Roof Sheets

The first stage as always was to remove the old roof sheets. These were old IBR galvanized roof sheets with a single polycarb sheet that had faded so as not to allow light through.

Roof Beams

Once the roof sheets were removed. A few of the roof trusses were replaced. The timber on these trusses were rotten in places due to ingress on the old roof. We took the time to paint the old and new trusses with a hard-wearing roof paint.

The garage doors were painted with new fascia board added. Whilst we were replacing the roof, we took the time to replace the internal gutter. Using a top-quality aluminium gutter. These types of gutters can only be replaced while the roof sheets are removed so it makes sense to replace them at the same time to give the customer years of trouble-free use.

IBR White Colourbond Garage Roof

We were now ready to install the IBR Profile Colorbond Garage Roof using new white IBR Colorbond roof sheets. We specified white IBR Colorbond roof sheets to reduce the temperature in the summer.

To increase the light in the garage we installed two new white polycarb IBR roof sheets. To match the rest of the property Cape Charcoal colorbond barge boards were installed.

IBR Poly Carb Roof Sheets

Project finished. All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing delivered another quality project. If you need roofing, waterproofing, or painting. Then contact All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing by filling out the contact form call us on (021) 557 8363 for a Free Quote.

Removal of Asbestos

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing were again trusted to carry out the removal of Asbestos Roof Tiles and replace this old and hazardous roof material with a new roof. For this project we used IBR Colourbond which is proven as a quality material in the harsh South African conditions.

The first stage is the removal of the old hazardous asbestos roof tiles. This has to be done safely and within the current stringent legislation. This cannot be done by members of the public as the contractor has to be registered with the Department of Labour. To read or download the National Environmental Management: Waste Act: Regulations: Waste classification and management click the link.

The once the asbestos roof tiles are removed. We install SA Pine purlins these screwed to the existing roof trusses. Onto these purlins the IBR Colourbond roof sheets are installed.

We remove asbestos roof tiles and replace with IBR Colourbond Roof Sheets in stages. This way we ensure that the roof is not left open overnight. Although this project was carried in the summer there is still the risk of summer rains.

Once the roof is finished and the Colourbond Barge Flashings are added the roof is cleaned to remove all foreign objects and debris. After a final inspection the project is handed over.

Asbestos Removal Canadian Profile

Asbestos Removal

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing were tasked with the asbestos removal of a block of flats in Cape Town. The block had been standing since the late 1960’s. The original Canadian Profile asbestos roof sheets had done their job and had reached the end of their usable life.

The building was a three story building. Our skilled staff are all certified to work at heights. To ensure their safety and that of the residents we used Giant Scaffolding to install roof high scaffolding as a fall arrest system and to give us ease of handling the hazardous waste asbestos material off of the roof. And to bring the new IBR colourbond roof sheets onto the roof.

The finished project is a new IBR profile colourbond roof that will give good service for many years to come. Asbestos roof sheets are hazardous and must be removed in line with Occupational Health and Safety Act: Regulations: Asbestos. Colorbond vs Zincalum

We are often asked what is the difference between colorbond, colourbond Ultra and Zincalum and why we would specify one product over the other. As a general rule we would offer either colorbond or colorbond Ultra. It is a superior product with attributes that you don’t get with Zincalum. If you property is within 5km’s from the sea then we would recommend Colorbond Ultra. But what are the differences between the three materials?

Secure, durable and energy smart, Colorbond steel is a popular roofing material. Created in the mid-nineteenth century, Colorbond was the solution to corrugated roofs. While corrugated roofs were robust, they corroded easily so needed regular painting. In response, Colorbond steel was created as a better alternative.

Since its introduction in Australia in 1966, Colorbond has become one of the most attractive roofing options. As a pre-painted steel material with a Zincalume core, Colorbond is strong yet lightweight. Manufactured by BlueScope Steel Limited, strict design, manufacturing and testing procedures are followed to ensure it is built to last.

With its long lifespan, Colorbond steel is used on roofs across Australia and South Africa . Available in a wide range of colours, the product is thermally efficient, highly resistant to corrosion and easy to maintain. Offering exceptional benefits, it’s no wonder that Colorbond steel has become a popular roofing material.

Tough, reliable and durable, Zincalume steel is another popular roofing material. Made from zinc, aluminium and silicon, this product lasts four times longer than galvanised steel.

Also manufactured by BlueScope Steel Limited, Zincalume steel undergoes extensive testing. Over the last 17 years, more than 5,000 Zincalume steel panels have been tested in real-world conditions. The panels’ resistance to all elements proves that Zincalume is one of the toughest steel materials available.

Zincalume steel also offers long-lasting performance. Like Colorbond, it is thermally efficient, highly resistant to corrosion and easy to maintain. As one of the most durable and economic forms of roofing, it is a popular choice for Australian roofs.

Since your roof is a long-term investment, it’s important to choose the best option for your home. While Colorbond and Zincalume are both strong, durable and long-lasting, there is a key difference that you should consider.

The key difference between Colorbond and Zincalume is, in fact, colour. While Colorbond is available in 22 colours, Zincalume comes in one standard aluminium colour. This difference can impact the look and appeal of your home.

Colorbond’s wide range of colours has been designed to suit all styles. Inspired by Australia, the colours are grouped into contemporary, classic, matt and ultra palettes. Whether you prefer cool, warm, light, dark, subtle or bold shades, Colorbond has colours to match your home’s theme or help you create it.

On the other hand, Zincalume steel comes in one standard aluminium colour. Since it does not have a layer of custom paint, its colour cannot be tailored to your home’s theme. Its shiny metal look also dulls over time, which may detract from your home’s appeal.

When it comes to choosing the best roofing option for your home, you need to decide whether colour is important. The fact that one product can come in colours to suit your home and the other cannot is a factor that you should consider.

Resistant in All Weather Conditions

Tested in Australian conditions, Colorbond roofing is weather-resistant. Whether it is extreme heat, cold, rain or wind, this product can withstand it all. It is even compliant for use in bushfire prone areas. Undergoing extensive corrosion, durability and exposure testing, Colorbond steel is strong and secure, no matter the weather.

Colorbond roofing is incredibly durable. With its ACTIVATE® technology and five layers of protection that comply with Australian Standards (AS1397 and AS/NZS 2728), this roofing material is built to last. Each layer offers added strength, protection and technology that increases the product’s durability.

Colour And Design Range

Colorbond’s wide range of colours and designs let you customise your roof to your home. Available in 22 contemporary, classic, matt or ultra shades, there is a colour to suit every theme. Colorbond is also available in a variety of designs, including corrugated, panel and weatherboard. These options allow you to match your roof to your unique property needs.

Energy Efficient

This roofing material improves your home’s energy efficiency. Featuring Thermatech® technology that reflects the sun’s rays, it helps keep your home cool, so you use your air conditioner less. What’s more, choosing the highly energy-efficient lighter roof colours may qualify for a roof insulation concession.

Low Maintenance And Long Life

Colorbond roofing’s durability means that it is easy to maintain and long-lasting. Simply washing it with water every so often is enough to maintain its look. If maintained properly, your Colorbond roof can last at least 30 years.

Colorbond Roofing Cost

The main disadvantage of Colorbond roofing in Melbourne is its cost. Aside from installation and labour costs, the Colorbond roofing cost can be higher than other options.

The Colorbond roofing cost varies depending on the type of roof sheets you need. For example, Colorbond roof sheets with enhanced durability cost more than basic corrugated sheets. Typically, it costs between $18 to $40 per sheet.

While the Colorbond roofing cost needs to be considered, it is important to remember this product’s superior quality and long life. With its low maintenance, you will also save more in the long run. Your roof needs to keep your home safe and secure, so investing in Colorbond steel ensures this protection for many years.

To help you decide whether it is the best option for your roof, here are the main advantages and disadvantages of Zincalume roofing.

Zincalume is one of the toughest steel products available. Its zinc, aluminium and silicon components make it exceptionally durable. Highly resistant to corrosion and scratching, this roofing material is not easily damaged.

Long Lifespan

Its incredible toughness also gives it a long lifespan. Developed after extensive research into improving galvanised steel, Zincalume’s components ensure long-lasting performance. In fact, Zincalume steel lasts four times longer than galvanised steel.

More Affordable

Zincalume roofing is an affordable option that still delivers results. Strong, lightweight, non-combustible and resistant in all weather conditions, it offers many benefits at a lower price compared to some roofing materials.

Standard Aluminium Colour

Zincalume’s standard aluminium colour is a significant disadvantage. Since it does not have a layer of custom paint, this product only comes in one colour. This means that the material cannot be tailored to your home’s theme. Prone to dull over time, its shiny metal colour can also detract from the look and appeal of your home.

Less Energy Efficient

Due to its shiny metal colour, Zincalume steel is less energy efficient than some roofing materials. The steel sheeting is so shiny that it naturally radiates heat. As a result, your home can also become less energy efficient.

As two of the most popular roofing materials, COLORBOND ® and ZINCALUME ® differ in many ways. When it comes to deciding which option is best for your roof, you should consider your unique property needs and the advantages and disadvantages of each product.

While both roofing materials are incredibly durable, if you are seeking superior quality, you can’t go wrong with Colorbond steel. Even though the initial outlay is higher than Zincalume’s, Colorbond’s customisable colour, low maintenance and long life make it a great investment for the long run. Choosing Colorbond roofing will not only add value to your property but bring your home to life for many years to come.

All Season Roofing

Skylights Cape Town

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing were asked to install a ceiling with skylights. Our solution was to construct plywood boxes that fitted to the roof trusses. Into a frame we fitted acrylic sheets that allow maximum light into the area. If you need ceilings or repairs to ceilings call us now on (021) 557 8363 or contact us for a free quote

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing carry out all types of waterproofing. The photo on the right shows a recently completed parapet wall. We ensure that the entire parapet wall is covered. By doing this we ensure that we stop ingress from the entire wall. In this project we used 4mm heat fused membrane. This material is burned onto the roof using a blow torch. Once the membrane is applied we coat the waterproofing membrane with a Sliver paint to protect the membrane. Installation of IBR Colourbond Roof & Internal Gutters

IBR Flat Roof

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing were contracted to replace an IBR colourbond roof at a commercial building. The client had a problem with a leaking internal gutter

IBR Colourbond Roof Installation

After the old roof sheets were removed we replaced the old gutter with a larger unit. This was designed in such a way that the gutter was extended under the roof sheets to the first purlin.

Roofing Cape Town

The final product saw the gutters waterproofed from the parapet walls and through the gutter to ensure the longevity of the materials. The parapets walls were waterproofed onto the flashing’s. The Waterproofing was then protected using a Silver Bitumen paint.

The Roof Sheets were fitted to allow the correct run off into the gutter. If you are looking for a new roof, roof repairs or just need advice contact us on (021) 557 8363 for a free quote. To view a video of the project click on the link below

Installation of Flat Roof

Waterproofing Cape Town

All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing were asked to install a new roof on a garage recently. Water ingress was seen on an adjoining wall. All Seasons Roofing & Waterproofing determined that whilst the waterproofing was in fair condition but the roof was constructed on top of an old metal corrugated roof. On top of this corrugated metal was a thin layer of hardboard. This type of installation tends to move and does not give the best of surface for waterproofing.

Wooden Deck Waterproofing

Once we have removed the old waterproofing, the boards and the old roof sheets. We installed 18mm plywood, which we screw onto the roof timbers to ensure that we get the best fixing.

Flat Roof Cape Town

Prior to waterproofing the boards and the parapet walls are primed using a bitu primer. This is a required step to ensure that the waterproofing is able to adhere to the newly installed roof.

Torch on Cape Town

The last stage is heat fused membrane (torch on) this is then covered with a protective layer of silver paint. We waterproof the full top of the parapet wall to ensure that no water can ingress via cracks that often appear in walls. In this roof we installed an aluminum gutter. This was waterproofed to form a continuous waterproofed roof and gutter.
